2nd World Breastfeeding Conference 2016

FANTA presented on and discussed nutrition advocacy and community nutrition assessment, counseling and support at the 2nd World Breastfeeding Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. The conference drew in nutrition policy makers from around the world to analyze progress made and challenges faced in enhancing breastfeeding rates globally since 2012.

FANTA presented “Strengthening Multisectoral Planning for Nutrition at the Local Government Level: Experience from Uganda ” at the 7th African Nutrition Epidemiology Conference on October 12th. In the presentation, FANTA shared its approach to strengthening local nutrition governance through the District Nutrition Coordination Committee Initiative.

Through the use of the body mass index wheel, created by FANTA and the Boston Children’s Hospital, health care workers can quickly calculate BMI and BMI-for-age as well as determine a client’s nutritional status using a single time-saving tool.

Little is known about the cause of preterm birth and its exact association with adverse health outcomes later in life. FANTA initiated a study with its partner, the University of Tampere, to investigate some of these issues affecting those living in low-income settings where the problem is most common.

Congratulations to the 2015–2016 Uganda Nutrition Fellows

The Uganda Nutrition Fellowship—an 18-month program to develop skilled nutrition professionals—placed 12 Fellows with nine host organizations last year to engage in a variety of nutrition activities. The multi-talented and dedicated Fellows graduated from the program on October 13 with newly gained technical and leadership experience. Learn more about the Fellows.
