Nutrition Care and Support of People Living with HIV in Countries in Francophone Africa: Progress, Experience, and Lessons Learned

publication cover

Food and nutrition interventions play an important role in the global response to the HIV pandemic, although, to date, the main focus has been on eastern, central, and southern African countries where the HIV pandemic is most severe. However, food and nutrition interventions are important in West Africa as well, where HIV prevalence might not be as high, but malnutrition rates often are. This report, which was prepared for and presented at the World Health Organization Consultation on Nutrition and HIV in Burkina Faso in November 2008, presents the results of a review of progress in integrating nutrition into HIV care and support in 18 Francophone countries in western and central Africa.
