Dietary Diversity as a Household Food Security Indicator

publication cover

To assess whether dietary diversity collected at the household level could be used as a proxy measure for the access component of food security when resources for measurement are scarce, FANTA partner IFPRI analyzed household datasets from 10 countries. The study validated household dietary diversity (i.e., the number of food groups consumed) as a measure of household access to food, as measured by per capita expenditures and caloric availability at the household level.
