Counseling Materials for Nutritional Care and Support of People Living with HIV/AIDS
Counseling Materials for Nutritional Care and Support of People Living
with HIV/AIDS (revised April 2005) were produced by the Regional
Centre for Quality of Health Care with technical and financial support from
FANTA and LINKAGES and funding from
USAID/REDSO. These materials are for
use by counselors and service providers to support nutritional care and support
for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). The materials were developed with a focus
on Uganda and are being used and adapted in other countries as well. The
materials include: A flip chart of counseling cards on key nutrition
actions PLWHA should take to maintain health, prevent infections, and manage symptoms;
A job aid for ART service providers, counselors, and pharmacists
to help ART clients address food and nutrition implications of ART;
Answers to frequently asked questions about nutrition and HIV/AIDS;
A meal planner to assist PLWHA in planning appropriate dietary intake;
A nutrition assessment tool for using body mass index (BMI) to assess the nutritional
status of PLWHA; A fact sheet on healthy eating for PLWHA.
