Nutritional
Care and Support for People Living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda (2004)
With support from
the USAID/Uganda, FANTA assisted regional and national groups to develop
national guidelines on nutrition and HIV/AIDS. These nationally
adopted guidelines provided recommendations for the nutritional needs of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and
on steps that service providers could take to help PLHIV manage symptoms and improve
functioning through nutrition actions. The guidelines were produced by the Uganda
Ministry of Health STD/AIDS Control Programme and the Uganda Action for Nutrition,
a national nutrition coalition, with support from FANTA and the Regional
Centre for Quality of Health Care.
