Technical
Note No. 1 Credit
with Education and Title II Programs (2002)
Based on the village banking
model with a simple change-promotion agenda inspired by the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh,
Credit with Education (CWE) is a way to provide small-scale banking to women, combined
with education for business and family survival. Targeting women primarily in
very poor, rural areas, CWE programs have resulted in women
increasing their assets, accumulating savings, and building their self-confidence.
This Technical Note is based on the experiences of Freedom from Hunger in 12
countries. It discusses how the CWE model can be introduced into
a traditional Title II program to reinforce Title II health and nutrition education
services. For a more detailed report of this program, see Credit
with Education: A Promising Title II Microfinance Strategy.
