Generating Indicators of Appropriate Feeding of Children 6 through 23 Months from the KPC 2000+Nutrition interventions designed to improve infant and young child feeding practices are one component of many child survival and health programs. The Knowledge, Practice, and Coverage Survey (KPC) is used widely by PVOs implementing child survival and health programs to carry out assessments, conduct baseline surveys, and evaluate the impact of programs. The current KPC survey contains a module on infant and child nutrition, but several stakeholders felt that elements of the module (especially the indicator tabulation plan) could be strengthened. FANTA and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), collaborated with PVOs implementing child survival and health activities and other experts including USAID, academic institutions, and Cooperating Agencies such as ORC Marco's DHS+ and Child Survival Technical Support projects to prepare this report. This report suggests small modifications to the KPC 2000+ Infant and Child Nutrition module and tabulation plan to improve the ability to measure, interpret, and analyze several key infant and young child feeding practices of children in the 6 through 23 month age range. The authors also make recommendations for presenting infant and young child feeding practices survey results. This report is also available in sections to allow for easier downloading.
