Kenyan National Guidelines on Nutrition and HIV/AIDS 2006

Kenyan Guidelines on Nutrition and HIV/AIDS

With funding from USAID/Kenya, the FANTA Project provided technical assistance to the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP) in the Kenya Ministry of Health to develop Kenyan National Guidelines on Nutrition and HIV/AIDS. The national guidelines support the 2005-2010 Kenyan National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan, in which the Government of Kenya has identified nutrition as a key component of the national response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The national guidelines establish a consistent set of nutrition recommendations for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and describe actions that service providers need to take to provide nutritional care. Topics covered include nutrient needs of PLWHA, critical nutrition actions for PLWHA, nutritional care for those taking ARVs and other drugs, nutritional management of symptoms, food security, and nutritional care for children and pregnant and lactating women living with HIV/AIDS.
